Ready in a jiffy Savoury oats porridge

10 min is all it takes to make this quick-meal!

Savoury Oats Porridge

Oats is not greatly favoured in our house because of its bland taste and limited options. Savoury oats porridge was something I thought of, a long time ago, to ensure that we get our share of fibre via this easy-peasy meal. Even that takes around 15-20 min to prepare and cook. But this recipe is quicker, easier and faster than a regular oats porridge.Ask me how!

When you have sometime on your hands, just prep the oats following the below instructions, and store them in an airtight container. When those hunger pangs kick in, mix oats and hot water in 1:2 ratio, close the bowl and walk around the house for just a couple of min to eat your ready in a jiffy and tasty oats porridge.

This stuff tastes similar to the Saffola Savoury Oats sachets, and is very versatile. Use the flavours you want, savoury or sweet, ensure that there is no moisture left in the oats mixture and save it for future use!

Savoury Oats Porridge

Preparation time – 10 min
Level – Very Easy
Can store well in an airtight container for upto a fortnight

Ingredients
Oats – 2 C [I used Saffola Ready-To-Cook oats]
Cooking Oil – 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
Green chillies – 2, chopped fine
Ginger – 1 inch piece, chopped fine
Curry leaves – a couple, optional
Asafoetida/Hing – a pinch, optional
Cashewnuts – 1/4 C, chopped fine, optional

Suggested garnishing – Coriander leaves and a squirt of lemon juice

Instructions
In a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard and cumin seeds. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add the ginger, chilli and cashewnut pieces. Saute these well to remove all the moisture from the green chillies and ginger pieces. Now add the curry leaves , and asafoetida.

Add the oats to this, and mix well. Sauté the oats till they are roasted along with this mixture. Remove from heat, keep aside to cool and store in a box.

To use this oats mixture, mix hot water and oats in a 2:1 ratio and keep the bowl closed for upto 5 min. Garnish and serve hot.

    1. Add hot water, and close the lid of the pan/cup/mug for 5 mins.
Alternatively you can also add water, and microwave them for 3-4 mins on high power.
Cooks either way! Tell me how it turned out :)
